WHAT DOES A DOULA DO?
A Doula helps the birthing mother during Labor. She focuses on helping the mother create her ideal birth. A Doula provides choices and allows for Empowerment. She does not change shifts like nurses or other medical providers. She is a consistent presence during labor. She is there to give Physical, Emotional and Psychological support. A Doula protects the mother and father and their wishes for the birth. She helps maintain a quiet environment conducive to a peaceful birth. She helps with Physical and Emotional comfort measures and gives ideas for natural pain relief. A Doula meets with the couple prior to birth and listens to what THEY want from the birth, then works to help facilitate their ideal birth.
